Dr. Spiros Zodhiates - Rome was not built in a day, nor was AMG India. Seeing the work of Evg. Dr. John David, Dr. Spiros Zodhiates associated himself with his work. Dr. Spiros Zodhiates was born of Greek parents, on the island of Cyprus. After completing his Greek education, he joined American University in Cairo, Egypt. Later, he studied B.Th. Degree from National Bible Institute (now Shelton College) in New York and M.A. from New York University. In 1978 he earned his Doctor of Theology degree from Luther Rice Seminary of Jacksonville, Florida.
He is also the recipient of several honorary doctorates. In 1946, he came to the United States, at the invitation of AMG International, of which he became the Director in 1947. Later Dr. Zodhiates became the President in 1966.
In 1968, in a chance meeting with Evg. Dr. John David, Dr. Spiros asked him to start helping poor children in India. The cost was to be shared by both AMG International and John David. This was the starting point for starting AMG India International in 1968.
AMG International is supporting following projects run by AMG India :-
- Educatonal support to poor children, in AMG schools in Bheemili and Chilakaluripet.
- Eye Hospital at Kadiyum, for free treatment and eye surgery to poor villagers, with free implantation of Intra-ocular- lenses(IOLs)
- Monthly Rations to 1000 leprosy patients, to prevent them from begging on the streets and give them human dignity.
- Support to AMG leprosy relief and rehabilitation project, Valley of Love,Simhachalam (near Vizag).
- Adult Education centers to teach basic reading and writing to illiterate adults.
